  1. What is Kagi?
  2.  
  3. Kagi is a shareware payment processing service that makes it 
  4. easy for people to pay shareware fees and saves shareware authors from 
  5. handling payment processing.  Shareware is software that someone writes 
  6. and is widely distributed on the Internet and BBSes.  People download 
  7. the software and try it.  If they like it they pay a shareware fee for 
  8. it's use.  We handle the processing of that shareware fee.  Here's how 
  9. we do it.

  11. How does the payment processing work?
  12.  
  13. We provide shareware authors with a small registration program that they 
  14. bundle with their software.  When a person wishes to pay for their 
  15. shareware they run the registration program and fill in the form that it 
  16. presents.  They enter their name, email, postal address, and the 
  17. shareware they wish to pay for.  The form accepts many different payment 
  18. methods such as: US Check, Money Order, Cash (in many different 
  19. currencies), Visa, Mastercard, American Express, First Virtual, and 
  20. Invoice (to be given to their accounts payable department).  They either 
  21. email the data generated by the registration program or they print it 
  22. and send it via postal mail or fax.  Sensitive information, like credit 
  23. card numbers, is encoded for better security.  Each payer receives an 
  24. email reply and at the once a month the shareware authors receive a 
  25. single payment from Kagi.

  27. What are the advantages to this system?

  29. Payers like this service because it makes it easy to pay their shareware 
  30. fees and shareware authors like the service because more people tend to 
  31. pay when it is easy to do so.  Non-USA shareware authors and payers like 
  32. the service because it eliminates all the currency conversion issues 
  33. such as how a payer in Finland would pay an author in Australia.  
  34. Another benefit of the service is that shareware authors can concentrate 
  35. on what they do best, writing software, rather than spending time 
  36. processing payments.
